Support Veterans and Strengthen Local Bonds
A post where families, neighbors, and those who served come together around what matters most.

Mission Statement:

American Legion Post 4 is a not-for-profit 401 (c) 3 veterans organization dedicated to supporting the “Four Pillars” enshrined within The American Legion Constitution. Post 4 charter became effective 3 September, 1919.

“The Four Pillars”

1) Americanism

Seeks to inspire love of country and good citizenship through patriotic observances, flag etiquette, civic instruction in schools, the Americanization of immigrants, community service, and youth activities such as Boys State, Boy Scouts, Oratorical Contests, School Award Medals and American Legion Baseball.

2) Children & Youth

Ensure children of veterans in need of care and protection receive proper and timely services and aid, extends connections to verified organizations and facilities providing services for children and youth, and maintains programs that meet the needs of youth in the local community.

3) Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation

Assists veterans in pursuing claims, understanding their rights and obtaining their benefits. Committee members also visit veterans who are sick, disables or residing in assisted living facilities, and provide comfort to members’ families in illness and bereavement.

4) National Security

Engages in community emergency preparedness, promotes public safety, and supports local and national defense projects.

How the Post Serves and Operates

Everything we do is grounded in the Four Pillars outlined in The American Legion Constitution: Americanism, Children and Youth, Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation, and National Security. These aren't abstract ideas—they're the framework for how we show up in Billings, from the ceremonies we conduct to the programs we fund and the spaces we maintain. You'll know what to expect when you engage with us, because our mission has been clear since our charter took effect in September of nineteen nineteen.

Our Honor Guard plays a visible and honored role in military funerals, memorial services, parades, and civic ceremonies across the region. The Bar and Grill offers a relaxed setting where members and guests gather for meals, drinks, and a rotating lineup of leagues and events. Youth programs receive our backing through sponsorships, mentorship, and hands-on support that reinforces teamwork and leadership. Each piece fits into a larger commitment to serve those who've worn the uniform and the families and neighbors who stand beside them.

When you visit or get involved, here's what becomes part of your experience:

  • Access to Honor Guard services that reflect dignity and respect at memorial and civic occasions throughout the area
  • A welcoming bar and grill with food, drinks, and a full events calendar including tournaments and fundraisers
  • Opportunities to support youth sports teams and community programs that encourage growth and civic engagement
  • Connection to a post that's been an active part of the Billings community for more than a century

Commitment Carried Forward Through Steady Hands

American Legion Post 4 has been serving Billings since nineteen nineteen, and that continuity shapes how we approach every responsibility. We're not chasing trends or rewriting our mission—we're holding the line on principles that have stood the test of time. This post was built by veterans and their families, and it's sustained by people who believe that showing up, staying consistent, and honoring your word are the foundation of trust.

The work we do—whether it's standing at attention during a ceremony, hosting a fundraiser, or mentoring a young athlete—reflects a standard we set for ourselves and a promise we make to the community. You won't find shortcuts here, and you won't find empty gestures. What you'll find is a group of people who take pride in doing things the right way and who understand that reliability isn't just a value—it's how you earn respect and keep it.
